Who we are

Hi there! We’re Erica and Col, the proud owners of Northern Roots Flower Farm. Our story begins in the heart of the Midwest, where we grew up surrounded by the beauty of nature, but it wasn’t until we moved to North Carolina that our journey took a new direction. After Erica pursued veterinary school and Col sought out further career opportunities, we decided to plant roots in a place that was rich with potential, and that’s when we stumbled upon the property that would change everything.

When we bought our home, the yard was a far cry from the dream we had envisioned. It was clear that the previous owners hadn't cared for it, and what we found underneath the overgrown weeds was enough to make us pause. As we cleared away the mess, we discovered pounds of trash, old toys, and other debris buried under layers of neglect. Despite all of that, we knew there was hope. The soil, though tired, still held the promise of something beautiful.

With a shared passion for nurturing and a deep love for the land, we set out to restore the soil, pouring our hearts into it, one garden bed at a time. The goal was simple: to create a space where we could grow fresh cut flowers that would not only flourish but also nourish our community. As we tend to our flowers, we also tend to the earth with the same care and kindness that we believe the world needs more of.

And, of course, we can't forget about Torsten – our Labrador Retriever, who’s always along for the adventure. He’s our loyal companion as we work the land, keeping us company while we breathe life back into this special place.

At Northern Roots, our mission is more than just growing beautiful flowers. It’s about making the world a little brighter with each bloom and sharing the love and care we put into the land with our neighbors and friends. We believe that when you nurture something with love, it grows stronger and more vibrant. We hope that the flowers we grow can inspire a little more beauty, kindness, and hope in the world.
